Please note there will be no class Nov 28 in observance of Thanksgiving.
Classes will take place in my home in South San Jose (near Martial Cottle Park).
Parents are welcome to drop off students or remain and observe.
Students will learn to read, write, and pronounce Attic Greek. They will obtain knowledge of the Greek alphabet, an understanding of inflection and basic verb tenses and other foundational grammatical knowledge. By studying vocabulary, grammar, and syntax, students will not only gain an appreciation for Greek, but will also learn more about English and language in general. Students will also begin to read sentences in original Greek.
Students should expect to spend approximately 30 minutes/day outside of class reviewing material and practicing their vocabulary, grammar, and reading skills.
Students will have access to an online classroom, which will contain not only the work for the week, but also additional resources and content for them to engage with, both alone and with their classmates online. Students will receive access to the online classroom about a week prior to the start of class.
I will hold “office hours” weekly online over Zoom on Monday evenings from 4:30-5 PM. Students will receive information for my meeting room the first day of class.
We will be using the text Learn to Read Greek (LTRG) along with its workbook (bundled) as our primary resources. Students should purchase both the text and workbook.* While LTRG is more expensive than some texts, it is one of the best Greek resources on the market for helping students obtain thorough grammatical knowledge and for offering rapid introduction to and competence with original texts. This text will be used for multiple semesters.
Supplemental learning resources will be provided.
$378 / 14 weeks of instruction
